The Cleaved Helm
The Sword Worlds and Surrounds
"The smallest of . . . governments is 'the federation.' It exists because it is small, and communication time allows either government from a central authority, or representative government. In any case, a federation which grows too large for fast communication soon fragments due to internal friction."
— Marc Miller, "Dealing with the Concepts of Empires"

Black Bull blazon of Sacnoth

All of the Sword Worlds are located on a single main and the astrography of the region has been influence by original settlement patterns along this main. The trace of worlds along the main from Gram to core-spinward through Tizon, then looping around to Morglay, is known as "The Horseshoe." The four worlds nearest to Gram along the Horseshoe — Joyeuse, Colada, Tizon and Hrunting — were the first to be colonized after the original settlement of Gram and are known as the "First Colonies."
The six worlds along the main rim-trailward from Gram through Tyrfing and Sacnoth then turning rim-spinward to Narsil form the "Far Leg." The first three worlds — Tyrfing, Sacnoth and Excalibur — are part of the "New Colonies," settled in the second major wave from Gram. Core-trailward from Tyrfing and Sacnoth, along the main from Beater (originally Galatine) coreward to Dyrnwyn, is the "Dyrnwyn Spur," including Hofud and Durendal. These worlds — except Beater, which was held in reserve — made up the balance of the New Colonies originally settled from Gram.
The Sword Worlds
|
A third wave of colonization along the Horseshoe from Gram settled the three "Horseshoe Colonies" — Isenfang, Haulteclere and Morglay. Beyond Isenfang lies a minor rift and the worlds of the Coreward frontier.
Also in this era, the remaining three worlds of the Far Leg — the "Far Colonies" of Orcrist, Anduril and Narsil — were settled from Sacnoth, as well as the three "Rim Colonies" — Beater, Sting and Biter, the nearest of the "Rim Stars" along the main rimward to the "lost colony" of Caladbolg and beyond to the worlds of the Rim frontier. Trailward from Biter another trace of the main runs into the Trailing frontier. These are regions ripe for expansion in the Space Viking era.
Rim-spinward from Tizon, beginning with Kunoniḱ, are worlds farther along the main which had been settled by Darrians before the arrival of the original Sword Worlds Founders. Core-spinward from Hrunting along the main into the Entropic frontier are the four "Entropic Worlds," originally settled by ancient Darrians and now under the unsteady leadership of Entrope which managed to survive the collapse of ancient Darrian civilization. These regions are increasingly a source of conflict in the Space Viking era.

The Sword Worlds Surrounds
The Entropic Worlds
|
The Entropic frontier is an inhabited region core-spinward of the Sword Worlds, named for the world Entrope. Beyond this region is Zhdantian space. The Entropic Worlds — Entrope, Ansehelm, Irka and Wynstan — lie along the Entropic spur of the main to core-spinward of Hrunting.
Entrope was settled by ancient Darrians and the abandoned colony managed to survive the collapse of ancient Darrian interstellar civilization which followed the mysterious Maghiz, though initially with substantial civilizational regression. More recently, Ansehelm and Wynstan have been settled by the Entropeans, with material and technological assistance from the Darrians. In recent decades, Entrope has also been exiling dangerous criminals — and political dissidents — to Irka. (GJ0829, "The Sword Worlders"; GBJ1, p. 40)

The Rim Stars
|
Beyond the Rim Colonies lie the remaining Rim Stars, a sometimes dual-band of systems curving to rimward along the main to the "lost colony" of Caladbolg. Not formally explored before the Dominate's Rim Frontier Exploring Expeditions, little was known of these systems as most ships transiting between the Sword Worlds and Caladbolg only stopped long enough to conduct wilderness refueling at a gas giant or, in rare circumstances, by using often-frozen water on a world's surface.
The Margadsson Expedition was the first Exploring Expedition to conduct formal surveys of the Rim Stars, naming Lodestone, Vanaheim, Mithril, Igliim, Skofnung and the Caliburn Belt — traditionally understood to be the last of the Rim Stars, as the rimward main splits at this system into spinward and rimward traces. Nyord and Nidhog were named by the the Damsgaard Expedition while Bergsrå was named by the Namsmann Expedition which explored the Trailing Frontier. Mithril, Igliim and Bergsrå have been identified by the Sacnoth Dominate as candidates for potential settlement.

The Darrian Worlds
|
The Darrian Worlds are located along the main which extends spin-rimward from the Horseshoe at Kunoniḱ and includes the worlds of the Darrian Cluster. With both societies wary of the other there has been no formal exploration of the Darrian Worlds by the Sacnoth Dominate.
Many Dominate traders visit Kunoniḱ and Tĭrẏugḣ but the sparsely-populated worlds Nosyĕ, Zġazĕńḋ and Zeŕmoń — none of which have gas giants for wilderness refuelling — make trading with the more populous worlds of the Darrian Cluster beyond — Rorĕ, Yĕnġranġĕ, Lĕmḃĕrẏ, Yeliḿ, Rogeť, Końdaŕya and Myŕ, the Darrian capital — a challenge.
Few Sword Worlders have ever visited the sparsely-populated worlds Tĕrańḋ and Yĕgḣrań. Zḃumĕ sometimes serves as transit point to the Darrian Cluster, via deep space jump from Narsil — though travel to Daŕyeń, the mysterious Darrian homeworld, is discouraged.

Rim Frontier, Spinward Trace Worlds
|
Beyond the Rim Stars, the worlds of the Spinward Trace of the Pilgrim Frontier were first explored by the Margadsson Expedition, which reached as far as Welsung. The Bowman Expedition explored further along the Spinward Trace to Surtursild, encountering the Lungefisking at Curtana. The Tygalfsson Expedition explored as far as Rømer and Sansamha, encountering the Leddyring at Quernbiter.
Zulfikar is the only world along the trace identified as a potential candidate for colonization (due to its hospitable ecosphere) though the difficulty of conducting wilderness refuelling at Angurva — and perhaps too its proximity to the Darrian Worlds — would make settlement a challenge. The Bowman Belt has been identified as a potential source of metals exploitation. Nagelring has been identified as a potential source of radioactives and heavy metals.
Datrillian has plentiful water but its very thin atmosphere renders most of it as surface ice, making the system's single gas giant the more attractive source for wilderness refuelling. Sekvens has a similar ecosphere but no gas giant — its peripheral position along the trace makes it an unlikely future destination. Likewise, the lack of a gas giant in system or surface water at the similarly positioned Sacho also makes it an unlikely future destination.

Rim Frontier, Rimward Trace Worlds
|
Beyond the Rim Stars, the worlds of the Rimward Trace of the Pilgrim Frontier were first explored by the Damsgaard Expedition, which reached as far as Graban and Lydia in the Hoding Cluster (returning via Mistelten and Elisabet). The Khaasira Expedition also surveyed the Hoding Cluster and explored further along the Rimward Trace to Nothung. The Acharya Expedition explored as far as Gullinbursti where the Rimward Trace splits into Spinward and Trailward Spurs.
Hoding, Tranchera and Dallia have been identified as candidates for colonization due to their hospitable ecospheres. Sauvagine has been identified as a potential source of chemical compounds but its corrosive atmosphere will make exploitation difficult. Lauf has been identified as a potential source of metals and minerals, especially because of its low gravity and extensive ice deposits.

Notes:
[ᚠ] While Haulteclere and Morglay (and therefore presumably also Isenfang) are identified in "The Sacnoth Dominate," Journal of the Travellers' Aid Society (online), July 25, 2000, as being "owned" by Gram in the Sacnoth Dominate era, the off-world control of these worlds during the Gram Hegemony was likely ended by the Dominate and a more typical vice-regal relationship established, so no such ownership is indicated for The Cleaved Helm campaign era.
[ᚡ] Unless otherwise indicated, the UWP values for Size, Atmosphere and Hydrosphere are those from the Traveller5 Second Survey as reported in The Spinward Marches: Second Survey (2016).
UWP values for Starport, Population, Law and Technology are the UWP data provided in "The Sacnoth Dominate," Journal of the Travellers' Aid Society (online), July 25, 2000 (or in "The Five States," Journal of the Travellers' Aid Society (online), July 23, 2002 for worlds not described in "The Sacnoth Dominate").
When it comes to the Sword Worlds' UWP values for Government provided in "The Sacnoth Dominate," all save for Sacnoth are described as having Captive governments (UWP 6), apparently reflecting the off-world control of the government of the Dominate, Sacnoth's Self-perpetuating Oligarchy (UWP 3). But this was an obvious error: the world government type was not intended to describe the control exercised by an interstellar government. (Otherwise, each of the original, Classic Imperium era Sword Worlds might also have been described as having Captive governments, reflecting the off-world control of the Gram-led Sword Worlds Confederation of that era. Indeed, every world in the Imperium might also, by this logic, could have been described as having a Captive government in the Classic Imperium campaign era.) Therefore, unless otherwise indicated, the Captive government types have been changed to Feudal Technocracy (UWP 5), the archetypal government type for the Sword Worlds.
[ᚢ] In the Classic era Spinward Marches Campaign (1985) and in the Rebellion era Imperial Encyclopedia (1987), the stellar data for Gram was "F2D M2D," while it is "F2V M2V" in The Spinward Marches: Second Survey, reflecting data revised in the "T5 Second Survey." (In the New Era Regency Sourcebook (1995), the stellar data was "F2V M2D," partially matching the Second Survey data, while in the alternative Classic era Sword Worlds (2004) the stellar data matches the Second Survey data.) The revision of the stellar data from "F2D M2D" to "F2V M2V" seems to align with the "T5 Second Survey Adjustments" criterion to replace "the dwarf (D) class stars with M class stars." The adjusted Secondary Survey data is used for The Cleaved Helm campaign.
The alternative Classic era Behind the Claw (1998) notes that Gram is "a heavily industrialized world," that "its atmosphere has suffered accordingly over the centuries" and is "tainted by industrial pollution." Because Gram has not been industrialized in The Cleaved Helm campaign era, it is assumed that this artificial atmospheric taint does not (yet) exist, and the Atmosphere UWP value has been adjusted from "9" (dense, tainted) to "8" (dense).
[ᚣ] Unless otherwise indicated, Stellar Data is from the Traveller5 Second Survey as reported in The Spinward Marches: Second Survey.
[ᚤ] In the Classic era Spinward Marches Campaign, in the Rebellion era Imperial Encyclopedia and in the New Era Regency Sourcebook, the UWP values for Joyeuse were "464" and the stellar data was "M3V M9D," while they are "564" and "M3V M9V" in The Spinward Marches: Second Survey, reflecting data revised in the "T5 Second Survey." (In the alternative Classic era Sword Worlds the stellar data matches the Second Survey data.) The revision of the stellar data from "M3V M9D" to "M3V M9V" aligns with the "T5 Second Survey Adjustments" criterion to replace "the dwarf (D) class stars with M class stars," while the increase in the world size from "4" to "5" aligns with the adjustments criterion to increase "the size of worlds with thin or better atmospheres to match the physics that small worlds can't hold atmospheres." The adjusted Secondary Survey data is used for The Cleaved Helm campaign.
Joyeuse is assumed to be Balkanized in The Cleaved Helm era, with the corresponding UWP Government code (7), unlike most of the other Sword Worlds in this era (see note [ᚡ]).
[ᚥ] In the Classic era Spinward Marches Campaign, in the Rebellion era Imperial Encyclopedia and in the New Era Regency Sourcebook, the UWP values for Colada were "364" and the stellar data was "K2V M8D," while they are "564" and "K2V M8V" in The Spinward Marches: Second Survey, reflecting data revised in the "T5 Second Survey." (In the alternative Classic era Sword Worlds the stellar data matches the Second Survey data.) The revision of the stellar data from "K2V M8D" to "K2V M8V" aligns with the "T5 Second Survey Adjustments" criterion to replace "the dwarf (D) class stars with M class stars," while the increase in the world size from "3" to "5" aligns with the adjustments criterion to increase "the size of worlds with thin or better atmospheres to match the physics that small worlds can't hold atmospheres." The adjusted Secondary Survey data is used for The Cleaved Helm campaign.
[ᚦ] In the Classic era Spinward Marches Campaign, in the Rebellion era Imperial Encyclopedia and in the New Era Regency Sourcebook, the UWP values for Tizon were "386" and the stellar data was "K2IV M3D," while they are "586" and "K2IV M3V" in The Spinward Marches: Second Survey, reflecting data revised in the "T5 Second Survey." (In the alternative Classic era Sword Worlds the stellar data matches the Second Survey data.) The revision of the stellar data from "K2IV M3D" to "K2IV M3V" aligns with the "T5 Second Survey Adjustments" criterion to replace "the dwarf (D) class stars with M class stars," while the increase in the world size from "3" to "5" aligns with the adjustments criterion to increase "the size of worlds with thin or better atmospheres to match the physics that small worlds can't hold atmospheres." The adjusted Secondary Survey data is used for The Cleaved Helm campaign.
[ᚧ] In the Classic era Spinward Marches Campaign, in the Rebellion era Imperial Encyclopedia and in the New Era Regency Sourcebook, the UWP values for Hrunting were "463," while they are "563" in The Spinward Marches: Second Survey, reflecting data revised in the "T5 Second Survey." The increase in the world size from "4" to "5" aligns with the adjustments criterion to increase "the size of worlds with thin or better atmospheres to match the physics that small worlds can't hold atmospheres." The adjusted Secondary Survey data is used for The Cleaved Helm campaign.
[ᚨ] In the Classic era Spinward Marches Campaign and in the Rebellion era Imperial Encyclopedia, the stellar data for Tyrfing was "M4V," while it is "M2V" in The Spinward Marches: Second Survey, reflecting data revised in the "T5 Second Survey." (In the New Era Regency Sourcebook and the alternative Classic era Sword Worlds, the stellar data matches the Second Survey data.) The revision of the stellar data from "M4V" to "M2V" seems to align with the "T5 Second Survey Adjustments" criterion to fix "the M class [primary] stars to a minimum of M4 if the [main] world is habitable." The adjusted Secondary Survey data is used for The Cleaved Helm campaign.
While Tyrfing is not identified in the Second Survey data as being a tidally locked, Twilight Zone (Tz) world, it is identified as a "classic tidally locked world" in Sword Worlds. The Sword Worlds information is used for The Cleaved Helm campaign.
[ᚩ] In the Classic era Spinward Marches Campaign, in the Rebellion era Imperial Encyclopedia and in the New Era Regency Sourcebook, the stellar data for Sacnoth was "F9V M8D" (in the alternative Classic era Sword Worlds the stellar data was "F9V D"), while it is "F9V M3V" in The Spinward Marches: Second Survey, reflecting data revised in the "T5 Second Survey." The revision of the stellar data from "F9V M8D" to "F9V M3V" seems to align with the "T5 Second Survey Adjustments" criterion to replace "the dwarf (D) class stars with M class stars." The adjusted Secondary Survey data is used for The Cleaved Helm campaign.
The alternative Classic era Behind the Claw says that Sacnoth's atmosphere is "tainted by small amounts of an unknown substance thought to be harmful to Humans" but that the "composition of [the] taint is unknown, and defies investigation" though it "is thought to cause cancers and other serious ailments." Furthermore, the Classic era Third Imperium: Sword Worlds (2011) says that the "lifespans of Sacnothi are noticeably shorter than those of other Sword Worlders," an outcome which "lends itself to some kind of atmospheric or hydrostatic toxifying agent," adding that over "the last 1,200 years countless studies have been made of the phenomenon but no real explanation has ever been decided upon." This source also notes that the "Imperial Scout Service — baffled by [the harmful symptoms'] cause — has chosen to call it a 'tainted atmosphere' . . . even if they are not sure the atmosphere is actually responsible." It is assumed that these harmful effects — which could perhaps be the result of industrial pollutants which have yet to accumulate in Sacnoth's biosphere — are not yet well recognized in The Cleaved Helm campaign era (which takes place 1,200 years before the Classic era) and therefore the Atmosphere UWP value has been adjusted from "7" (standard, tainted) to "6" (standard).
[ᚪ] In the Classic era Spinward Marches Campaign, in the Rebellion era Imperial Encyclopedia and in the New Era Regency Sourcebook, the UWP values for Excalibur were "324" and the stellar data was "M5V," while they are "424" and "K5V" in The Spinward Marches: Second Survey, reflecting data revised in the "T5 Second Survey." (In the alternative Classic era Sword Worlds the stellar data matches the Second Survey data.) The revision of the stellar data from "M5V" to "K5V" aligns with the "T5 Second Survey Adjustments" criterion to fix "the M class [primary] stars to a minimum of M4 if the [main] world is habitable," while the increase in the world size from "3" to "4" aligns with the adjustments criterion to increase "the size of worlds with thin or better atmospheres to match the physics that small worlds can't hold atmospheres." The adjusted Secondary Survey data is used for The Cleaved Helm campaign.
[ᚫ] In the Classic era Spinward Marches Campaign and in the Rebellion era Imperial Encyclopedia, the stellar data for Hofud was "M4V M9D," while it is "G6V M9V" in The Spinward Marches: Second Survey, reflecting data revised in the "T5 Second Survey." (In the New Era Regency Sourcebook, the stellar data was "K4V M9D" but in the alternative Classic era Sword Worlds the stellar data was "G6V D.") The revision of the stellar data from "M4V M9D" to "G6V M9V" seems to align with the "T5 Second Survey Adjustments" criteria to fix "the M class [primary] stars to a minimum of M4 if the [main] world is habitable" and to replace "the dwarf (D) class stars with M class stars." The adjusted Secondary Survey data is used for The Cleaved Helm campaign.
[ᚬ] In the Classic era Spinward Marches Campaign and in the Rebellion era Imperial Encyclopedia, the stellar data for Dyrnwyn was "M4V M8D," while it is "K4V M8V" in The Spinward Marches: Second Survey, reflecting data revised in the "T5 Second Survey." (In the New Era Regency Sourcebook, the stellar data was "K4V M8D" and in the alternative Classic era Sword Worlds it was "K4V M8V.") The revision of the stellar data from "M4V M9D" to "K4V M8V" seems to align with the "T5 Second Survey Adjustments" criteria to fix "the M class [primary] stars to a minimum of M4 if the [main] world is habitable" and to replace "the dwarf (D) class stars with M class stars." The adjusted Secondary Survey data is used for The Cleaved Helm campaign.
In Sword Worlds, Dyrnwyn is described as being "tidally-locked to its primary despite sitting on the very edge of the system's habitable zone." There is no indication of Dyrnwyn being a tidally-locked, "Twilight Zone" world in the Remarks data in any source, including The Spinward Marches: Second Survey. A Twilight Zone world typically occurs in Orbits 0 and 1 and the Habitable Zone of a K4V star is typically located in Orbit 1; Dyrnwyn could be both tidally-locked and on the "very edge of the habitable zone" in Orbit 1 around a K4V primary. The Sword Worlds information is used for The Cleaved Helm campaign.
[ᚭ] In the Classic era Spinward Marches Campaign and in the Rebellion era Imperial Encyclopedia, the stellar data for Orcrist was "M7V M7D," while it is "K7V M7V" in The Spinward Marches: Second Survey, reflecting data revised in the "T5 Second Survey." (In the New Era Regency Sourcebook, the stellar data was "K4V M7D" and in the alternative Classic era Sword Worlds the stellar data was "K7V D.") The revision of the stellar data from "M7V M7D" to "K7V M7V" seems to align with the "T5 Second Survey Adjustments" criteria to fix "the M class [primary] stars to a minimum of M4 if the [main] world is habitable" and to replace "the dwarf (D) class stars with M class stars." The adjusted Secondary Survey data is used for The Cleaved Helm campaign.
Orcrist, which is described as being "owned" by Sacnoth in "The Sacnoth Dominate," Journal of the Travellers' Aid Society (online), July 25, 2000, therefore maintains the Captive government (UWP 6) provided there (see note [ᚠ]).
[ᚮ] In the Classic era Spinward Marches Campaign, in the Rebellion era Imperial Encyclopedia and in the New Era Regency Sourcebook, the stellar data for Narsil was "M0II M6D," while it is "G6IV M0V" in The Spinward Marches: Second Survey, reflecting data revised in the "T5 Second Survey." (In the alternative Classic era Sword Worlds the stellar data was "M0II M6V.") The revision of the stellar data from "M0II M6D" to "G6IV M0V" aligns with the "T5 Second Survey Adjustments" criterion to reduce "the size of some giant stars (OBAF) [in this case, an M0II 'bright giant'] to more reasonable sizes (GK)" and to replace "the dwarf (D) class stars with M class stars." The adjusted Secondary Survey data is used for The Cleaved Helm campaign.
The alternative Classic era Behind the Claw notes that Narsil is "tainted by industrial pollutants" and "has long been the industrial powerhouse of the Sword Worlds." Because Narsil has not been industrialized in The Cleaved Helm campaign era, it is assumed that this artificial atmospheric taint does not (yet) exist, and the Atmosphere UWP value has been adjusted from "7" (standard, tainted) to "6" (standard).
[ᚯ] In the Classic era Spinward Marches Campaign and in the Rebellion era Imperial Encyclopedia, the stellar data for Beater was "M4V," while it is "K4V" in The Spinward Marches: Second Survey, reflecting data revised in the "T5 Second Survey." (In the New Era Regency Sourcebook and in the alternative Classic era Sword Worlds, the stellar data was "K4V," matching the Second Survey data.) The revision of the stellar data from "M4V" to "K4V" seems to align with the "T5 Second Survey Adjustments" criteria to fix "the M class [primary] stars to a minimum of M4 if the [main] world is habitable." The adjusted Secondary Survey data is used for The Cleaved Helm campaign.
[ᚰ] In the Classic era Spinward Marches Campaign and in the Rebellion era Imperial Encyclopedia, the stellar data for Biter was "M7V M1D," while it is "G7V M1V" in The Spinward Marches: Second Survey, reflecting data revised in the "T5 Second Survey." (In the New Era Regency Sourcebook the stellar data was "G7V M1D," while in the alternative Classic era Sword Worlds it was "G7V D.") The revision of the stellar data from "M7V M1D" to "G7V M1V" seems to align with the "T5 Second Survey Adjustments" criteria to fix "the M class [primary] stars to a minimum of M4 if the [main] world is habitable" and to replace "the dwarf (D) class stars with M class stars." The adjusted Secondary Survey data is used for The Cleaved Helm campaign.
The alternative Classic era Behind the Claw says that "Biter is too small to be a terrestrial world, but is: it is another world terraformed by the Ancients 300,000 years ago." It goes on to say that "Biter is slowly losing its air and water, but not so quickly as to be noticeable." This canon information likely explains why Biter's size was not adjusted in the Second Survey data to align with the adjustments criterion to increase "the size of worlds with thin or better atmospheres to match the physics that small worlds can't hold atmospheres."
[ᚱ] In the Classic era Spinward Marches Campaign and in the Rebellion era Imperial Encyclopedia, the stellar data for Isenfang was "M4V M7D," while it is "K4V M7V" in The Spinward Marches: Second Survey, reflecting data revised in the "T5 Second Survey." (In the New Era Regency Sourcebook the stellar data was "K4V M7D.") The revision of the stellar data from "M4V M7D" to "K4V M7V" seems to align with the "T5 Second Survey Adjustments" criteria to fix "the M class [primary] stars to a minimum of M4 if the [main] world is habitable" and to replace "the dwarf (D) class stars with M class stars." The adjusted Secondary Survey data is used for The Cleaved Helm campaign.
The alternative Classic era Behind the Claw notes that Isenfang's atmosphere has a "mild allergen taint." Because this is a natural phenomenon, it is assumed that this natural atmospheric taint also exists in The Cleaved Helm campaign era.
[ᚲ] In the Classic era Spinward Marches Campaign, in the Rebellion era Imperial Encyclopedia and in the New Era Regency Sourcebook, the stellar data for Haulateclere was "A5V G0D," while it is "A5V G0V" in The Spinward Marches: Second Survey, reflecting data revised in the "T5 Second Survey." (In the alternative Classic era Sword Worlds the stellar data was "A5V D.") The revision of the stellar data from "A5V G0D" to "A5V G0V" seems to align with the "T5 Second Survey Adjustments" criterion to replace "the dwarf (D) class stars with M class stars." The adjusted Secondary Survey data is used for The Cleaved Helm campaign.
[ᚳ] In the Classic era Spinward Marches Campaign and in the Rebellion era Imperial Encyclopedia, the UWP values for Morglay were "444" and the stellar data was "G3IV M4VI," while they are "544" and "G3IV M4V" in The Spinward Marches: Second Survey, reflecting data revised in the "T5 Second Survey." (In the New Era Regency Sourcebook the UWP values were "444" and the stellar data was "G3IV M4V," while in the alternative Classic era Sword Worlds the stellar data was "G3IV and M4V," matching the Second Survey data.) The revision of the stellar data from "G3IV M4VI" to "G3IV M4V" aligns with the "T5 Second Survey Adjustments" criterion to replace "the dwarf (D) class stars with M class stars," while the increase in the world size from "4" to "5" aligns with the adjustments criterion to increase "the size of worlds with thin or better atmospheres to match the physics that small worlds can't hold atmospheres." The adjusted Secondary Survey data is used for The Cleaved Helm campaign.
The alternative Classic era Behind the Claw notes that Morglay's atmosphere is "tainted by airborne pollen and other allergens of mild virulence." Because this is a natural phenomenon, it is assumed that this natural atmospheric taint also exists in The Cleaved Helm campaign era.
[ᚴ] This field shows the six Trade Classifications originally identified in the first edition (1977) of Book 2: Starships (p. 43): Agricultural (Ag), Non-agricultural (Na), Industrial (In), Non-industrial (Ni), Rich (Ri) and Poor (Po). (These Trade Classifications did not appear in the first edition (1977) of Book 3: Worlds and Adventures.)

[ᚶ] While Sting is not identified in the Second Survey data as being a tidally locked, Twilight Zone (Tz) world, it is identified as a "an old world, long since tidally locked to its primary" in Sword Worlds. The Sword Worlds information is used for The Cleaved Helm campaign.
