Sirius District
(adapted from Melbourne Times #1)
Worlds (Earth | Takla Makan | Van Maanen's Belt | al‑Mansur) | Map | Commerce
The Sirius district is named for its brightest star (at hex-prism 1718.20) and contains 34 worlds including the Dolphin and Human homeworld of Earth (at hex-prism 1720.19). The highest population is 8 billion at Earth. Total population in Sirius District is 8.5 billion with nearly 98% at Earth.
Sirius is one of the core districts surrounding Earth. The Commonwealth of Earth maintains commercial operations at all worlds and naval bases at Earth, Lingayen, Takla Makan, Ulan Ude, Orozco, al-Ghazali, Saavedra and Orinoco. The Abrahamic Synod maintains commercial operations at most worlds in Sirius. The Empire of Aztlán maintains commercial operations at most non-Commonwealth worlds. The Theridian League maintains a naval base at al‑Mansur.
Ten worlds in the district claim allegiance to the Commonwealth of Earth, including its capital, Earth. Nagpur and al‑Mansur claim allegiance to the Theridian League to trailward in Theridia district and Leyte claims allegiance to the Empire of Aztlán to spinward in Procyon district. Besides Earth, the agricultural worlds Takla Makan and al‑Mansur and the resource-rich Van Maanen's Belt are major trading centers.

District Worlds table notes:
[α] Hex-prism location, based upon distance — in parsecs — from Earth / Sirius (at location 1720.19), as derived from the "Near Star List" from 2300 AD. (For stars beyond 50 light-years — approximately fifteen parsecs — from Earth / Sirius, the location has been developed specifically for the Earth Colonies campaign and is not expected to align with actual astronomical data.)
[β] World Data Codes for gravitational acceleration (GA), atmosphere breathability (AB), biosphere development (BD), population magnitude (PM), social authority (SA) and technological achievement (TA).
[γ] In most cases, spectral type, luminosity class, and common name (or star catalogue designation) of all stars in system as listed in the "Near Star List" from 2300 AD. Links to additional stellar information provided by the Strasbourg Astronomical Data Center SIMBAD database, the Astronomisches Rechen-Institut ARICNS database and Roger Wilcox's Internet Stellar Database — which also provides a list of stars in the database within a given number of lightyears of a star. (For stars beyond 50 light-years — approximately fifteen parsecs — from Earth / Sirius, the stellar classication data has been developed specifically for the Earth Colonies campaign and is not expected to align with actual astronomical data.)
[δ] Commercial Operations codes: Ag = agricultural production (BD 3+, PM 4+), Ap = agricultural production and processing (BD 3+, PM 7+, TA 9+), Cs = communication services (PM 7+, TA 9+), Fs = financial services (PM 7+, TA 9+), Ma = manufacturing (PM 7+, TA 9+), Re = resources extraction (BD 2-, PM 4+), Rp = resources extraction and processing (BD 2-, PM 7+, TA 9+), Tr = transportation services (PM 7+, TA 9+).
[ε] Military forces codes for Navy base (N), Navy depot (D), Scout base (S) or Scout way station (W). (Allegiance codes in parentheses indicate a military base in an independent system.) Total number (K = x 1000, M = x 1,000,000) of local military forces (planetary and space).
[ζ] Allegiance codes: Ab = Abrahamic Synod, Ae = Aeroi Worlds, Az = Empire of Aztlán, Co = Commonwealth of Earth, He = Realm of Hejaz, In = Independent, Ki = Republic of Kiangsi, Me = Meren Worlds, Ny = Federation of Nyanza, Ou = Ouroran Community, Qu = Quebecer Republic, Ra = Rajasthani Confederacy, Sh = Empire of Shinnihon.

Earth is located at the spin-rim-upward extremity of Sirius, just one parsec from the Commonwealth world Ysyk‑Köl in neighbouring Procyon District. Indeed, due to its location at the boundary of the district, Earth also borders on Pollux, Gaea, Vega, Fomalhaut, Siddhārtha and Jagannath districts.
Earth has standard surface gravity (1.0G) and a breathable atmosphere. Its native biosphere has produced advanced fauna and Dolphin and Human sophonts. Earth's population is in the billions and its social authority is a consensual oligarchy. Earth has late interstellar stage technological achievement, among the most sophisticated in the Colones Sphere.
Commercial activities at Earth include agricultural production and processing, commercial and financial services, manufacturing (and shipbuilding), and interstellar shipping.

Takla Makan / Sirius (1814.19)
The independent world Takla Makan is the second most populous habitable world in Sirius (after Earth). Along with Van Maanen's Belt — and again after Earth, Takla Makan is also one the most technologically advanced worlds in Sirius. Nevertheless, its relatively remote location makes it something of a backwater.

Takla Makan is located at the spin-upward region of Sirius, just one parsec downward from the Commonwealth world Cybele in neighbouring Gaea District. It is also one parsec trail-rimward from the Aztlán world Leyte in Sirius and just two parsecs spin-rim-downward from the Synodic world Tabit in Gaea. Taklan Makan hosts a Commonwealth naval base as well as the district headquarters of both Zamzam Husbandry and Granjas Imperiales. In many ways, it is a crossroads of sorts for the three Colonial States.
Takla Makan has high surface gravity (1.4G) and a breathable atmosphere. Its native biosphere has produced advanced fauna (which is mostly aquatic given the world's high gravity). Takla Makan's population is in the tens of millions and its social authority is a consensual oligarchy. It has interstellar stage technological achievement.
Commercial activities at Takla Makan include agricultural production and processing, commercial and financial services, manufacturing, and interstellar shipping.

Van Maanen's Belt is located at the rim-upward region of Sirius, just one parsec rim-downward from Hǎishén in neighbouring Gaea District. It is also approximately equidistant from Eurybia to core-trail-upward in Gaea and Okhotsk to rim-spin-downward in neighbouring Fomalhaut District. Van Maanen's Belt has a substantial military force comprised primarily of thousands of gunboats intended for bastion defence of the system.
Van Maanen's Belt has only nominal gravity (0.0G) and a vacuum environment. There is no native biosphere. Van Maanen's Belt's population is in the tens of millions and its social authority is a democratic oligarchy. It has interstellar stage technological achievement.
Commercial activities at Van Maanen's Belt include commercial and financial services, manufacturing, resources production and processing, and interstellar shipping.
