Pollux District
(adapted from Melbourne Times #5)

Worlds (Clytemnestra | Prometheus | Hunaphu) | Map | Commerce

Named for its brightest star (at hex-prism 1311.14), the Pollux District contains 26 worlds.  Pollux is one of the core districts surrounding Earth which is just one parsec trail-downward of hex-prism 1620.18.  The Commonwealth of Earth has much influence in the district, maintaining commercial operations at most worlds and military bases at Fei Lien, Feng Po, Romulus and Remus.  The Empire of Aztlán and the Abrahamic Synod have somewhat less, though still significant influence in Pollux.  The Empire has commercial operations on most non-Commonwealth worlds, as well as military bases at Perez, Esau, Jacob and Artemis.  The Synod has commercial operations on most worlds.

Ten worlds in the district are members of the Commonwealth.  A single world, Yamaguchi, is a member of the Empire of Shinnihon to core-upward in Ehime District.  All remaining worlds are nominally independent.

Prometheus, the Commonwealth District Capital, is clearly the most important world in the district.  The independent agricultural world Clytemnestra and the Commonwealth resource world Hunaphu are also major trading centers.  The majority of other worlds are primarily agricultural producers.  Total district population is 5.9 billion with over 95% at Prometheus.  Total military forces in the district number nearly 53 million with the bulk at Prometheus.

District Worlds table notes:
[α] Hex-prism location, based upon three-dimensional Cartesian coordinate distances — in parsecs — from Earth / Sirius (at location 1720.19).
[β] World Data Codes for gravitational acceleration (GA), atmosphere breathability (AB), biosphere development (BD), population magnitude (PM), social authority (SA) and technological achievement (TA).
[γ] In most cases, spectral type, luminosity class, and common name (or star catalogue designation) of all stars in system as listed in the 2300 AD "Near Star List."  Links to additional stellar information provided by the Strasbourg Astronomical Data Center SIMBAD database, the Astronomisches Rechen-Institut ARICNS database and Roger Wilcox's Internet Stellar Database — which also provides a list of stars in the database within a given number of lightyears of a star.  (For stars beyond 50 light-years — approximately fifteen parsecs — from Earth / Sirius, the stellar classication data has been developed specifically for the Earth Colonies campaign and does not align with actual astronomical data.)
[δ] Commercial Operations codes: Ag = agricultural production (BD 3+, PM 4+), Ap = agricultural production and processing (BD 3+, PM 7+, TA 9+), Cs = communication services (PM 7+, TA 9+), Fs = financial services (PM 7+, TA 9+), Ma = manufacturing (PM 7+, TA 9+), Re = resource extraction (BD 2-, PM 4+), Rp = resource extraction and processing (BD 2-, PM 7+, TA 9+), Tr = transportation services (PM 7+, TA 9+).
[ε] Military forces codes for Navy base (N), Navy depot (D), Scout base (S) or Scout way station (W).  (Allegiance codes in parentheses indicate a military base in an independent system.)  Total number (K = x 1000, M = x 1,000,000) of local military forces (planetary and space).
[ζ] Allegiance codes: Ab = Abrahamic Synod, Ae = Aeroi Worlds, Az = Empire of Aztlán, Co = Commonwealth of Earth, He = Realm of Hejaz, In = Independent, Ki = Republic of Kiangsi, Me = Meren Worlds, Ny = Federation of Nyanza, Ou = Ouroran Community, Qu = Quebecer Republic, Ra = Rajasthani Confederacy, Sh = Empire of Shinnihon.
[η] Corresponds to the Kie-Yuma system in 2300 AD.
[θ] Corresponds to the Berthier system in 2300 AD.  This system's star is identified as BD +49° 2079 (Gliese 438.1) in 2300 AD, but that star, at a distance of over 400 parsecs from Earth, is well outside the Earth Colonies Sphere.  This analysis suggests that HIP 57050 (Gliese 122-40) is a more likely candidate.
[ι] Corresponds to the Joi system in 2300 AD.
[κ] Corresponds to the Crater system in 2300 AD.
[λ] Corresponds to the Augereau system in 2300 AD and to systems "Lalande 21258" at position "0717+13" and "BD+20" at position "0715+05" in StarForce.
[μ] Corresponds to the Neubayern system in 2300 AD and to system "BD+50 [1725]" at position "1216+11" in StarForce.
[ν] Corresponds to the Bessieres system in 2300 AD and to system "Lalande 21185" at position "1418+05" in StarForce.
[ξ] Corresponds to system "Wolf 294" at position "1705+11" in StarForce.
[ο] Corresponds to system "Ross 986" at position "1606+12" in StarForce.
[π] Corresponds to system "AC+79 [3888]" at position "1521+16" in StarForce.

Prometheus is located in the coreward-trailward-downward octant of Pollux, on the downward edge of the district, just one parsec from the Commonwealth world Kon'-win in neighbouring Procyon District.  It is connected to the world Cybele to trailward in Gaea District by the Commonwealth's Bosporus jump bridge.
Prometheus has high surface gravity (1.4g) and a breathable atmosphere.  Its native biosphere has produced advanced flora.  Prometheus has a population in the billions and its social authority is a democratic oligarchy.  It has interstellar stage technological achievement.
Commercial activities at Prometheus include agricultural production and processing, commercial and financial services, manufacturing and interstellar shipping.
The Prometheus system's star, Clymene, is a red dwarf (M5V).
