Ourora District
Worlds (Amazonas | Piauí) | Map | Commerce
Named for the Colonial State of which most of its worlds are members, the Ourora District contains 22 worlds, seventeen of which are members of the Ouroran Community (though one of these worlds, Roraima, is claimed by the Meren of Dedn District to trail-rim-downward). District population approaches six billion with more than 90% at Amazonas. The Ouroran world Piauí is the only other world in the district with high population and high technological accomplishment.
The worlds Algarve, Cuene, Amazonas, Ceará, Bahia and Beira are known as the Cuene Cluster. Alagoas, Inhambane and Sofala form the Alagoas Trace. A large rift stretches across the coreward and trailward sections of the district.
Ourora District is dominated by the Ouroran Community: nearly four-fifths of its worlds are members of the Community. All other worlds are nominally independent. A substantial Meren population on the Ouroran world Roraima is the source of an ongoing conflict that at times has seen the outbreak of hostilities between Ourorans and the Meren.
The Ouroran Community has naval bases at Piauí and Roraima and a naval depot at Amazonas. There are no other permanent naval forces based in the District. The Community has scout bases at several worlds, including the independent worlds Sofala, Melanje and Moxico, and maintains a scout way station at Amazonas. There are no other scout facilities in the district. Total military forces in Ourora District exceed 41 million, with the bulk at Amazonas.
The Ouroran Community maintains a J-3 jump bridge — Ponte de Fenda —between the worlds Amazonas and Rondonia to facilitate travel to Fomalhaut District to coreward and a J-2 jump bridge — the Quintas Alagoas-Cunene — between the Alagoas Trace and the Cuene Cluster to facilitate commerce between the Ouroran worlds of the District.

District Worlds table notes:
[α] Hex-prism location, based upon three-dimensional Cartesian coordinate distances — in parsecs — from Earth / Sirius (at location 1720.19).
[β] World Data Codes for gravitational acceleration (GA), atmosphere breathability (AB), biosphere development (BD), population magnitude (PM), social authority (SA) and technological achievement (TA).
[γ] In most cases, spectral type, luminosity class, and common name (or star catalogue designation) of all stars in system as listed in the 2300 AD "Near Star List." Links to additional stellar information provided by the Strasbourg Astronomical Data Center SIMBAD database, the Astronomisches Rechen-Institut ARICNS database and Roger Wilcox's Internet Stellar Database — which also provides a list of stars in the database within a given number of lightyears of a star. (For stars beyond 50 light-years — approximately fifteen parsecs — from Earth / Sirius, the stellar classication data has been developed specifically for the Earth Colonies campaign and does not align with actual astronomical data. These stars are named using a Prometheus Foundation classification system comprised of a unique capital Greek letter — based upon the system's hex-prism location within the district — and a Latinised form of the district name, e.g. "Α Ourorae.")
[δ] Commercial Operations codes: Ag = agricultural production (BD 3+, PM 4+), Ap = agricultural production and processing (BD 3+, PM 7+, TA 9+), Cs = communication services (PM 7+, TA 9+), Fs = financial services (PM 7+, TA 9+), Ma = manufacturing (PM 7+, TA 9+), Re = resource extraction (BD 2-, PM 4+), Rp = resource extraction and processing (BD 2-, PM 7+, TA 9+), Tr = transportation services (PM 7+, TA 9+).
[ε] Military forces codes for Navy base (N), Navy depot (D), Scout base (S) or Scout way station (W). (Allegiance codes in parentheses indicate a military base in an independent system.) Total number (K = x 1000, M = x 1,000,000) of local military forces (planetary and space).

Amazonas is located at the spin-coreward region of Ourora and is part of the Cuene Cluster.
Amazonas has slightly lower than standard surface gravity (0.9G) and a breathable atmosphere. Its native biosphere has produced advanced fauna. Amazonas's population is in the billions and its social authority is a democratic oligarchy. Amazonas has late interstellar stage technological achievement, among the most sophisticated in the Colones Sphere.
Commercial activities at Amazonas include agricultural production and processing, commercial and financial services, manufacturing (and shipbuilding), and interstellar shipping.
The Amazonas system's primary star, Harmonia, is a yellow dwarf (G3V) and the system's secondard star, Marte, is an orange dwarf (K3V).
