One of the "Convention Stories" in /Niven's Laws/ concerns a mock duel between Larry Niven and fan Russel Seitz. During the pre-duel negotiations-- but not the actual "duel"-- Seitz and his second, Gordy Dickson, wore 7th century Samurai armor from a Boston museum.

Don't recall reading anything about Piper trying on a real suit of armor.

Hey all! I remember reading an article about Piper. The author related a story of his trying on a suit of armor at a local museum. I'm writing my thesis and would like to cite the author. John Carr says it's not his. Does anyone else recall this article? Maybe something by John W. Campbell or Jerry Pournelle? If anyone can send me the source at qcfencer@hotmail.com, I would be deeply grateful.
Help would be greatly appreciated.
Yours in keeping great sci fi alive! JC

I think the good professor was picking up a near-adjoining timeline. This government just put the "Royal" back in the titles of the Army and Navy a couple of years ago, they won't be seceding any time soon.

And I think the people like having the Monarchy as an ace in the hole, for the "In Case of Scheming Despot, Break Glass" kind of emergency. Especially since we only have to pay for them when they show up here.

Amazing table manners when they do drop by, though.

Another near-adjoining timeline would have had Churchill follow through with his plan when he was on the "outs" in the UK, and emigrate to become an Alberta cattle rancher in the 1920s or 30s. Yes, I am sure that he would have stayed totally out of national politics...

When is Canada going to get to seceding from the Commonwealth like Ed Chalmers "remembered"? :)

And don't forget Federation Day (if we only knew when it was!).

Monster Ho!

Neat stuff here. Will you be running an on-line game in this setting? I think I could set up a separate forum for it here at Zarthani.net.
Let me know.
