So it looks like the "Space Force" of the (first) Terran Federation may have adopted the CSA insignia.

So, either the shift from stars to circles for Chartered Uller
Company army field-grade officers is a modification of the (second) Terran Federation Army insignia (also based on CSA insignia) or there was a modification from the CSA-like "Space Force" insignia in the transition from "first" to "second" Terran Federations.

Yes. I wonder if that's where I'm remembering this idea from. Still, it would seem that Beam also had the Confederate officer insignia in mind when he was devising insignia for the ("first" and "second") Terran Federation Army.

Remember Ashmodai! Remember Belphegor!

Terran Federation Military Ranks and Insignia

A potential new recruit writes (off-line):

I've made the appropriate change at Zarthani.net:

http://www.zarthani.net/encycterro.htm#C

This got me thinking about the models Beam must have used for ranks and insignia of the Terran Federation military. (Presumably, the Chartered Uller Company army mirrored what the 6th Century Terran Federation Army was doing.)

In "Omnilingual," we learn that a ("first") Terran Federation "Space Force"--apparently separate Terran Federation Army and Navy were "second" Federation innovations--major has a single star insignia:
http://www.zarthani.net/encycterro.htm#M

I seem to recall an earlier discussion which suggested that Beam may have been using Confederate States of America (CSA) ranks and
insignia as his model for the Terran Federation. Would either of these insignia--three concentric circles for colonel, single star for major--fit that model?

Thanks,

David
