Work set in Piper's Terro-human Future History

The Condottieri, a retelling of Piper's "The Mercenaries," ©2010 by David Johnson.

The original "The Mercenaries," first published in Astounding Science Fiction in March 1950, is one of Piper's three "Hartley" stories, based in a setting that is somewhat similar to the Terro-human Future History but distinct nonetheless. This retelling removes those elements of the Hartley setting which are imcompatible with the Terro-human Future History and makes other minor changes to align the story with the Terro-human Future History.

In Congress Assembled—, a retelling of Piper's "When in the Course—" by David Johnson, July 2010.

The original "When in the Course—," first published in the 1981 anthology Federation edited by John F. Carr, is set in the Terro-human Future History but includes characters and settings which also appear in Piper's Paratime story "Gunpowder God." This retelling removes these Paratime elements and makes other minor changes to align the story with the Terro-human Future History.

The original "The Edge of the Knife," first published in Amazing Stories in May 1957, is a Terro-human Future History story which deals only peripherally with events leading up to the Thirty Days' War. This retelling abandons the original characters and plot and addresses events leading to the Thirty Days' War more directly.
